What I can Offer

Webmaster

Knowledge of HTML plus experience with a wide variety of Content Management Systems (CMS) gained in a business environment.

If elected, the most important thing is to keep the website functioning well. I would work with Alex for a smooth handover and ensure that the planned domain name renewal goes smoothly on June 5th.

I would look to carry out a review of the existing software to ascertain whether an upgrade was needed, and implement any necessary improvements.

I would refresh the current template, which has been in place for a number of years, and ‘smarten up’ the look of the site.

It will be important to work with other committee members to see how the website could be made more user-friendly, and better promote their work.

Committee Member

Coming from employment rather than straight from school, I have a varied and relevant work history. I am extremely well organised and have experience of campaign and events organisation. A team player, I'm happy to pitch-in to ensure the success of the Law Society.

Manifesto

The website is the public face of the Law Soc, as well as one of the main sources of information for current and prospective students. The Society’s income is healthy and we should be able to afford a better and more flexible Content Management System, which will ensure the smooth running of the site for years to come. For a small investment we could make the site look far more professional and businesslike, and able to host more information.

A more modern and user-friendly software infrastructure would also allow committee members other than the Webmaster to add content, making sure that the site is updated more frequently, and students kept better informed about things such as career events, competitions and speakers. This is particularly important in the year that the Faculty moves to temporary accommodation further away from the main campus.

Other innovations could include setting up a Law Soc twitter account to alert students to website updates, integrating the work of Silk v Brief and publishing it fully on the Law Soc site rather that at Issu, and allowing PDF downloads. I’d aim to create dedicated role-specific email addresses such as president@ucllawsociety.co.uk, so contact details for committee members won’t have to change every year.

About Me

Second year LLB. Interested in crime, family and all those areas of law in which it's impossible to make a living.

Late to law with a previous career as a Headhunter, Labour MP's Parliamentary Assistant (a constituent once requested I exorcise their haunted toilet), and an early, and mercifully brief, stint as Welephant, the South Wales Fire Service mascot. Currently interning at the Bar Pro Bono Unit.

Once worked as a sous chef, so I pledge to provide interesting snacks in Cissy Chu on voting days.
